Why I Started Kdrama Wise
Hi — I’m a playwright and a mom living in Korea, and this is where I write about the K-dramas I watch. Honestly, sometimes a little too honestly.
I started this site because I kept having the same experience: finish an episode, head buzzing with thoughts, and nowhere to put them. My family was tired of hearing me analyze plot twists at the dinner table. So I started writing it all down — my real reactions, the things that bothered me, the lines that stuck, and the cultural details that most reviews skip right past.
My Background & How I See K-Dramas
I’ve spent over 30 years writing for a living and mentoring younger writers, so when I watch a drama, I can’t help but notice the bones underneath it — the structure, the pacing, the choices a writer made and why. But I’m also just a Korean mom watching these shows in my living room, recognizing my neighbors, my relatives, and sometimes myself in these characters.
I don’t just tell you whether a show is “good” or “bad.” I dig into what it’s really saying about Korean society — about ambition, family, education, class, and the quiet pressures so many of us live under.
About the writer
Kdrama Wise is written by a Korean playwright who debuted through Sinchunmunye (신춘문예) — one of Korea’s most prestigious literary competitions. A specialist in Korean Language and Literature with a Master’s in Theater Studies, she has spent more than a decade teaching essay and critical writing.
Published works include the play collection “We Deliver to Heaven” (천국으로 배달해 드립니다) and the staged musicals Kkangtong and Ahn Yong-bok’s Blue Flag, along with adapted screenplays and documentaries.
